559 - Neuropsychiatric symptomatology after severe COVID-19 in older survivors

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has rapidly spread worldwide, leading to increased concerns about long-term patients’ neuropsychiatric morbidity. Currently, there is still few data regarding mental health after hospital discharge of severe COVID-19 elderly patients. Considering this, the present study aims characterize morbidity in old Methods: In context an ongoing multidisciplinary research project, this analyzed a subsample patients aged ≥60 years, admitted due COVID-19, during first wave, Intensive Care Medicine Department (ICMD) University Hospital Porto, Portugal. ICMD length stay (LoS) ≤24h, terminal illness, major auditory loss or inability communicate at time follow- up were used as exclusion criteria. Participants evaluated by telephone average 99 (±32) days being discharged from hospital, with Six-item Cognitive Impairment Test, PatientHealth Questionnaire and Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale. Sociodemographic relevant clinicaldata obtained electronic records clinical interview. Results: A sample 39 survivors mean age 70 (±6.3) years assessed. majority male (62%), married (64%), retired (77%), low educational level (59%), 15% lived alone. number comorbidities daily medications per patient 4.7 (±1.7) 5.5 (±3.5), respectively. During stay, 69% had nosocomial infections 56% delirium. Deep sedation was 74% (mean=30 days) needed Invasive Mechanical Ventilation. LoS was33 (±28.3) days. Based on follow-up assessment, 18% cognitive impairment, whereas23% depressive anxiety symptoms, positive high correlation between depression found (rs=0.792; p<0.001). No significant associations observed impairment. Conclusions: presence symptomatology may hinder successful recovery once back home. This particularly accruing strong relationship anxious symptoms sample. Therefore, early screening timely support interventions minimize these should be considered order achieve outcomes.
